2004 HENRY HOLMES SHIRAZ

Wine Description: A rich, ripe Shiraz with subtle spicy wood aromas and generous mouth-filling fruit flavours. Its soft finish makes it easy to drink with a wide range of foods.

Varietal: 100% Shiraz

Appellation: Barossa Valley, South Australia

Harvest Notes: After an unusually cool summer and a gentle autumn, the Barossa Valley experienced one of the mildest and best quality vintages during 2002. The moderate day-time temperatures, which only rose above 40°C several times between November and February, and text-book January rains which maintained sub-soil moisture levels, provided perfect weather for growing and ripening wine grapes.
Most winemakers predicted that the 2002 Shiraz would have the intensity and fruit definition of the famous 1998 vintage, but with a more elegant structure from the finer tannins. This led to exceptional Shiraz with the desirable combination of ripeness and balanced acidity, producing wines with exceptional colour, flavour and natural acid levels that will ensure longevity.

Winemaker Notes: 100% grown and made in South Australia’s Barossa Valley region. Sourced from the Holmes family vineyards that have a reputation for producing fruit of intense flavours and colour. The fruit for the 2003 Henry Holmes was picked at peak ripeness and after an extended fermentation spent 12 months ageing in new French oak barrels.

Food Recommendations: Lamb, Pasta and Strong Cheeses.

Alcohol: 14.3%
Total Acidity: 6.31 gm/100ml
pH: 3.36
Bottled: October 2004
Volume: 360 cases
Best Consumed: 2005-2015
